Supporting the Green Coalition of Public Development Banks in the Amazon
Identifying and showcasing replicable sustainable finance models to strengthen climate- and nature- positive investments across the Amazon biome.
INTER-AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (IDB), CAF • AMAZON REGION • 2025 – PRESENT
Project Overview
MGF supported the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in its role as Secretariat of the Green Coalition of Public Development Banks in the Amazon, to identify sustainable finance models with potential for replication and scale across the Coalition. Working directly with public development banks and financial institutions in Latin America including in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, MGF evaluated sustainable infrastructure and sustainable land use investments in the Amazon, developing case studies that examined their financing approaches, implementation models, enabling conditions, and environmental and development impacts.
MGF also conducted a comparative analysis across the Green Coalition’s broader portfolio of case studies to identify common barriers, lessons learned, and enabling factors. The analysis translated these findings into practical recommendations for public development banks and other financial institutions seeking to replicate, adapt, and scale sustainable finance approaches across the Amazon.
