Project Overview

Since 2025, MGF has supported Mercy Corps (now Prosper Global) to advance its climate and carbon finance initiatives, combining organization-wide capacity building with hands-on support for the development of nature-based solutions (NbS) carbon projects. MGF has helped strengthen Mercy Corps’ internal understanding of carbon markets while advising on corporate readiness, organizational alignment, governance, project feasibility, financial structuring, and pathways to commercial and concessional investment. 

In Uganda, MGF supported Mercy Corps’ Country Office to scope and assess the feasibility of implementing a NbS carbon project. This included supporting Mercy Corps with market analysis, project design and implementation considerations, financial scenario modeling, stakeholder and donor mapping, and in-person capacity building. 

Our Work

• Organizational Readiness & Capacity: Assessing Mercy Corps’ readiness to develop carbon projects, advising on organizational alignment and governance, and building staff and partner capacity on climate finance, carbon markets, and nature-based solutions project development. 
• Project Development & Feasibility: Advising on the development of NbS carbon projects under VM0032 and Gold Standard A/R in Uganda, including market analysis, project design, technical and operational planning, and financial scenario modeling for feasibility assessment. 
• Investment & Capital Mobilization: Mapping commercial and concessional investors, donors, and other project finance providers; assessing carbon investment opportunities; and developing fundraising materials and financing strategies to support project development and implementation.
